Walhalla
Excerpt from a Letter by Henry Goppelt (411 Hayden Street, Saginaw, Michigan) Pasted on the Reverse:
“This picture … was brought to America by Mother’s parents (the Krehes) in 1863. … Shortly before [Mother and Father] died – they said to me, Why don’t you and your sisters, Carrie & Molly, take a trip to Germany to visit our relatives in Germany and they told us all about what Germany was like before they left there. So, in Apr. 1911 we decided to go and see our relatives. Mr. Cooper who had been there the year before, decided to go with us again. We traveled all the way together – until we left him for Switzerland – from there we crossed Lake Lindau [Lake Constance] to Germany to see our relatives. We had a very difficult time to get to Trommetsheim, cause it was not on the map and no one knew where it was – finally we found someone who took us with horse & wagon!”

E. M. Forster, SELECTED STORIES – Penguin Paperbacks
Penguin Twentieth-Century Classics
The cover painting is Luigi Russolo’s “Music” (1911)
–
Penguin Classics
This collection includes all the stories Forster published in The Celestial Omnibus (1911) and The Eternal Moment (1928), but none of those published in The Life to Come (1972).
A scholarly edition of all Forster’s stories would be welcome.
