Jean Effel, Illustration for FEMMES FRANÇAISES (1944)
This illustration is explained by the fact that the French punished female collaborators (“collabos”) with the Nazis–in part–by shaving their heads.
Jean Effel was the pseudonym of François Lejeune (1908-1982).
