In Memoriam Richard Chambers (1952-1974)

Six postage stamps representing six animals in the Tierpark in (East) Berlin were issued by the Deutsche Demokratische Republik in 1956–the year after the Tierpark opened. The stamp shown above, the sixth, was the one of highest denomination.

Richard Chambers, the younger brother of our family friend Mike Chambers, was killed in a car accident in 1974. Mike gave the blogger Richard’s collection of German postage stamps, which included the Tierpark series.
